Note that during peak hours and depending on the season, it can get quite full in this dense little square. So if you’d rather want to skip the crowds, head to the Old Town either early in the morning or in the late afternoon or evening.

The Vltava river neatly bisects Prague, defining the city’s landscape in a major way. That not only lends the city some stunning and indeed romantic scenery (more on that later), but it also means that one of the best ways to see as much of Prague as possible in a reasonable time frame is to take a short cruise following the river.
Cruises are very popular in Prague, so the choice is all yours – from a spartan ride in a paddleboat to an all-inclusive evening in a climatized cabin with a three-course dinner included, there are lots of options.
You will get to see both the ancient center and the area surrounding Prague Castle as well as the more modern outlying areas. Not to mention that the Vltava waters themselves are usually quite calm, warm, and relaxing – a perfect setting for a romantic date for two!
3. See Prague Castle together
Speaking of the castle, this is another must-visit item for when you’re looking for things to do in Prague as a couple. Not just one of the city’s most well-known monuments, it’s in fact one of the largest and oldest castles in the world that’s still standing entirely preserved!
What makes it especially attractive as a setting for a date night in town is that the entire fortress was built on a hilltop, with a quarter known as the Castle District surrounding it.
Climbing that hill doesn’t just offer you miraculous views of the river and the city itself, but it also brings you closer to many of Prague’s oldest and most storied bars, cafés, restaurants, and monuments.
4. Give the zoo a visit
Often ranked among the world’s best, the local zoo is definitely one of the best places to go in Prague for couples. Its large, semi-urban spaces are home to a whopping 5,000 animals of hundreds of different species from every continent of the planet.
A couple’s favorite in the zoo is the lanovka, a kind of open-air funicular (imagine a ski lift, if you will) that links the part of the complex near the river to a separate campus that was built on the slopes of Castle Hill.
Definitely not something you’d want to try if either of you is scared of heights, but it can be a lot of fun otherwise!
5. Cross the Charles Bridge together
Prague is a city of bridges, but none have the same fame and romanticism attached to them as Charles Bridge does. Among the oldest and grandest of them all, it’s a major attraction and one of the most memorable sights of the city.
Whether at sundown, at noon, or early in the morning, crossing the Charles Bridge is one of the most romantic things to do in Prague for couples, period.
6. Climb up Vyšehrad
Many visitors don’t know it, but Prague Castle is not actually the only one of its kind in town.
Vyšehrad is a fortress that dates to the 10th century, built on a hill overlooking the river on the opposite end of the city. The area surrounding the fortress contains a large park that is really popular among residents and lends a touch of nature to that corner of Prague’s inner city.
I personally think Vyšehrad is one of the most romantic places in Prague to be – especially around New Year’s Eve, when its tall, ivy-covered walls become the perfect lookout point to watch the fireworks from.
7. Go pedal-boating
If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, taking a river cruise isn’t the only thing worth doing on Vltava. Pedal boating is a popular pastime for both tourists and locals, and there are plenty of rentals always to be found along the river banks.
Sure, it’s a lot more physically demanding than a leisurely cruise. But it can also be one of the most fun things to do in Prague for couples if you feel up to it. The best part: many of the local pedal boats have hand-painted wooden hulls finished to look like vintage two-seat convertible cars.
If that isn’t the cutest thing, I don’t know what is!
8. Grab some bubble tea in town
I know few culinary items as divisive as bubble tea, so this might not be for everyone. Case in point, I can’t really stomach it at all myself, but my girlfriend is the polar opposite. Even having traveled the continent quite extensively, she finds there is nothing that compares to the local bubble tea made in Prague.
You might not know it, but Prague has actually been home for many years to a huge number of immigrants from countries like Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. This has affected the local food scene too, of course, meaning it’s one of the best places in Europe nowadays to get authentic Mochi, sushi, wok, and yes, bubble tea as well!
9. Take a walk through Vinohrady
Everyone has their favorite neighborhood in Prague, and while tastes of course do differ, my vote goes out to Vinohrady. Literally “the wine gardens”, this picturesque quarter is perfect for a late-night stroll with your beau.
The name is not just for show, either. If you feel like treating yourselves, Vinohrady is one of the best places to experience local wine tasting, which is definitely among the most romantic things to do in Prague.
10. Hike, bike, or skate around Letna
One of the taller hills overlooking Prague, Letna is a major hiking destination and favorite hangout spot for many native residents.
Also home to a large urban park – yes, that’s a pattern with Prague – Letna is a great place not just to relax, but also to exercise and reward yourself with some stunning panoramic views.
11. Take a ride on a historic tram
Apart from the three colored metro lines, Prague’s trams are its main mode of local public transport.
For me, a slower though much more scenic and adventurous ride in one of Prague’s trams – many of which are restored vintage cars from the 70s or earlier – easily beats the metro for when I’m not in a hurry. It makes traversing the city just that much more memorable and romantic!
If you really want to add something special to the already magical experience of Prague’s old trams, consider riding on one of the historic lines. These are not always running, so be sure to check the dates and timetables for your trip.
Most of the time, the historic tram carries the number 41.
If you manage to catch a ride, you’ll be rewarded with the sights and sounds of some of Prague’s oldest rolling stock – literal museum pieces dating back to the 1930s, transporting you and your loved one to a time and space straight out of an old romantic movie.
12. Feed the swans
During the warmer months of the year, the Vltava river welcomes a steady population of migrating swans. Symbols of love and pair bonding in the animal kingdom as they are, of course, it has become a long-standing ritual for visitors and locals alike to go and feed them by the riverbank.
Watching and tending to the swans, whether from the shore of the Prague mainland or one of the small islands accessible via Charles Bridge, for sure counts among the most romantic activities to do in Prague for couples.
13. And don’t forget about the nutria!
You might not have ever heard of nutria, and you’re not alone. Originally native to South American rainforests, these cute little beaver-like rodents were brought over to Prague by accident via the sea trade.
Now well-integrated into and a firm part of the local ecosystem, the nutria are in my opinion one of the cutest and least well-known sights in the city.
Friendly and calm by nature, they are best observed from the aforementioned islands on the Vltava River, where they often congregate near the shore and are not hesitant at all to climb on land and greet their human visitors for a moment.
14. Have a picnic at Riegrovy Sady
We’re not done with Prague’s green spaces yet – the city’s full of them!
Riegrovy Sady is one of my favorite parks, situated on a hilltop overlooking the inner city and the quarter surrounding the central train station and the National Museum.
A big chunk of the hilltop is a beer garden, where you can grab a drink and enjoy the fresh air with your partner if you wish. For me though, there’s no replacement for laying out a blanket somewhere on the rolling slopes of the hill and turning the date into a picnic! Bonus points if you manage to catch a sunset – the views from Riegrovy Sady’s top are truly priceless.
15. Enjoy a night at the theater
Prague’s National Theatre was built overlooking the Vltava on its right bank in 1883. Today, it’s one of the city’s standout sights, defining the inner-city skyline when viewed from the western shore.
Staging ballet, opera, and theatrical classics from every time period and country of origin, the National Theatre is one of the highest-ranked venues on the continent and is widely beloved for its impressive architecture and acoustics indoors.
If you would enjoy a cultural outing with your other half, the nearby State Opera house also makes for a terrific romantic couples’ activity in Prague.
16. Climb up Petrin tower
Ask the average person what the most romantic landmark in the world is, and most would likely tell you about the Eiffel tower. Not to be outdone, Prague has its own version, the Petrin tower!
Constructed for a national exhibition in 1891, the Petrin tower always bore an obvious family resemblance to its then-new French cousin. The Czech version is much smaller though, and unlike the Eiffel tower, it was built on a hilltop that can be accessed from the Castle district via a little funicular railway.
If you’re physically able and want to make the occasion more interesting for yourselves, making the hike by foot is one of the most fun things to do in Prague for couples.
From Charles Bridge, it will take you between half an hour and fifty minutes to make your way to the top of the hill. Afterwards, you’ll need to climb 299 steps to reach the peak of the tower, where the observation deck is located. From there, you can see much of the Bohemian countryside – definitely a view to remember!
17. Go on a sculpture hunt
Prague has been a city of artists for generations, a fact that’s well reflected within the city’s streets themselves! If you feel like going on a little treasure hunt together, there’s no better way to explore the nooks and corners of Prague than by ticking off all its various sculptures.
From the classically beautiful, like The Czech Musicians near the Old Town square, to the truly bizarre, like David Cerny’s famous Crawling Babies on Zizkov tower, there sure is a lot of variety for every taste!
18. Add a day trip for extra spice
One great thing about Prague for couples is that it’s not just a wonderfully romantic place to be all by itself. It’s also centrally located and perfectly interconnected with plenty of other European marvels fit for a little lovers’ getaway, including Plzen, the home of the Pilsner Urquell brewery, as well as magical medieval towns like Český Krumlov.
If you have the time to spare and are going to be in Prague for a weekend or more, I would definitely consider going on a day trip while you’re there.
